Paul Harkey Honored By Alma Mater as Distinguished Alumni
Paul Harkey has firmly established himself as a powerhouse bassist in Southern Gospel music. Ernie Haase & Signature Sound has been blessed to have him with us for the last eight years. It’s no surprise to EHSS, or to our fans, that Paul is being recognized by his Alma Mater, Wayland Baptist University, as a Distinguished Alumni.
The Wayland Baptist University Alumni Association has selected six individuals to be honored during Homecoming 2021. The Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented on Feb. 19, 2021, in an online release since the homecoming celebration had to go to a virtual format given the continuation of COVID precautions.
The University shared this in a recent press release: Paul Harkey, BM’03, Distinguished Alumni Award: Paul worked in church music ministry for several years before taking a temporary gig as a bass singer with gospel group Crystal River. Realizing his call to the performance ministry, Paul then served with The Anchormen before landing his “dream job” as bass singer with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound in 2012.
“I’m blessed far more than I deserve!” exclaims Paul. “If anyone knows that to be a true statement, it’s me. It’s amazing to me that I’m being awarded for literally living my dream. I feel like I’m double dipping! I appreciate Ernie (Haase) for believing in me and for being a friend. Then, with my amazing wife and wonderful kids...I’ve never had it so good. I’ll be forever grateful for my time at Wayland! A huge thank you to my professors and to the Wayland Alumni Association! May I never take any of this for granted.”
The awards presentation will premiere at 6 p.m. (CST) on Friday, Feb. 19, on the alumni YouTube channel and be available afterward for viewing on demand. Paul will appear via a Zoom video. You can watch it HERE.
